“Cracking UTF-8″ with Chris Johnson, Software Engineer at Tagged.
While all programmers of 3+ days’ experience are aware UTF-8 is a fundamental part of our craft, few are aware of how it works, what it offers and how it can be abused. This talk will cover the development of Unicode from ASCII through Chinese, mathematical symbols and emoticons; the details of encoding characters in UTF-16 and today’s dominant standard UTF-8; plus ways erroneous character strings might be used to compromise naive implementations of the standard.
